Bukeka Newby-Shoals is an accomplished orator, workshop facilitator and performing artist.
In the early 1990's Bukeka assisted NFL Legend Rosey Grier in developing an inner city youth program called Are You Committed-Kansas City. The program assisted youth from the urban core of Kansas City in developing trade skills for carpentry construction. As Program Director Bukeka developed curriculum and fee-for-service programs to build new housing in impoverished neighborhoods.
Recognized for her work in job training Bukeka began facilitating workshops and professional development programs for the State of Missouri on topics such as leadership, service, ethics, diversity and work-life balance.
Choosing to use all her talents and abilities to motivate and inspire others, Bukeka released her first music CD in 1998. Her musical performances include opening for entertainment industry icons Harry Belafonte and Della Reece. She has also opened for world renowned authors such as Dr. Maya Angelou, Mark Victor Hansen, Gary Zukav, Marianne Williamson and Arun Gandhi.
As a motivational presenter, Bukeka has been featured in the Kansas City Star, Evolving Woman Magazine, and the Kansas City Woman's Foundation Celebrating Woman 2001 book edition. Her television appearances include KCTV 5 Bright and Early Show and CNN's Anderson Cooper 360.
Bukeka is co-owner of CVE Network Enterprises a motivational Presentation company and Cornerstone Learning Group both located in Kansas City, Missouri. She provides professional development training and consulting services to schools, government agencies, for profit and not-for-profit corporations.
Her clients include: The University of Kansas Medical Center-Office of Diversity and Cultural Competency; Avila University-The Avila Advantage Program; First National Bank; Hy-Vee Food Stores Incorporated; The Georgia State Department of Education and The American Social Health Association. She is an active member of the American Business Women?s Association and is one of the organizations leading presenters.
Her presentations often include stories and song that reflect information on creating a sufficient and equitable world. She graces audiences at retreats, conventions and corporate training programs with her talent and passion to help people expand their thinking and live more productive lives.
Not only is her work inspiring, but so is the history behind her name. At age 6, she was immersed in the Civil Rights movement with her parents. Inspired by this great movement of change she wanted a new name. She chose Bukeka. With her parents blessing Gretchen Elizabeth Newby entered first grade with the name she had chosen ? Bukeka. Now she is taking her life lessons to help people and organizations make conscious choices during times of change and transition.
